How Washday collects, uses and protects personal data, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

1. Who we are

Washday is a product of Techytal Design Agency Limited (RC-1903234), a company registered in Nigeria, of 1, Obadina Steet, Abule Oja Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria. In these documents, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Techytal Design Agency Limited, trading as Washday.

Washday is software that laundries and dry cleaners (“laundries”) use to take orders, track garments, take payments and arrange pickup and delivery, plus a public directory and customer accounts.

  • For your account with us (your Washday customer account, wallet, the directory and our own messages to you), we are the data controller.
  • For a laundry's own customer records (the orders, notes and history a laundry keeps about its customers), the laundry is the data controller and we process that data on its behalf as its data processor. Questions about how a particular laundry uses your data should go to that laundry first; we will help.

2. What we collect

We collect only what we need to provide the service:

  • Contact details: your name and mobile number (verified with a one-time code), and an email address if you give one.
  • Order details: the items you send for cleaning, prices, notes about stains or damage, pickup and delivery addresses, and order status history.
  • Payment records: amounts, dates, method and references. Card and bank details are entered on Paystack's pages and are handled by Paystack; we never see or store full card numbers.
  • Wallet details (only if you open a wallet): your name, BVN and own bank account number, which we pass to Paystack to verify your identity. We keep only the last 4 digits of your BVN, plus the bank account used for refunds.
  • Messages: support conversations with a laundry or with us, and a log of the order updates we sent you by SMS or WhatsApp.
  • For laundry staff: name, phone, email, role and branch, and a record of actions taken in the app (for security and audit).
  • Technical data: the cookies described in our Cookie Policy, and basic server logs (such as IP address and time of request) kept for security and to prevent abuse of one-time codes.

We do not collect sensitive personal data such as health, religion or biometric data, and we don't use advertising trackers.

3. Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • To provide the service you asked for — taking and tracking orders, payments, deliveries, receipts and order updates (performance of a contract).
  • To verify your identity for a wallet and to prevent fraud (contract, and our legal obligations).
  • To keep financial and tax records and respond to lawful requests (legal obligation).
  • To keep the platform secure, investigate problems and improve it (legitimate interests).
  • To send offers and news from a laundry — only if you opted in. You can switch this off at any time in My account (consent).

4. Who we share it with

We never sell personal data. We share it only as needed to run the service:

  • The laundry you order from (and its staff and riders), to carry out your order.
  • Paystack — payments, wallet accounts, identity checks and payouts.
  • Termii (SMS) and Meta's WhatsApp Business service — order updates and one-time codes.
  • Delivery companies a laundry uses for your order (for example Chowdeck, or couriers booked through Terminal Africa or Shipbubble) — your name, phone and address for that trip only.
  • Our hosting and database providers (Supabase and our web host), who store data for us under contract.
  • Authorities, where the law requires it.

Each provider may only use the data to provide its service to us.

5. Where your data is stored

Our main database is hosted by Supabase in London, United Kingdom. Transfers outside Nigeria are made only with the safeguards the NDPA requires (such as contractual protections), and the United Kingdom has strong data protection law.

6. How long we keep it

  • Orders, payments and invoices: 6 years, for tax and accounting records.
  • One-time codes: minutes (they expire after 10 minutes and are deleted on account deletion).
  • Wallet records: for as long as the wallet is open, then 6 years as financial records.
  • Support messages: until you delete your account or ask us to delete them.

When you delete your account, your name, phone number, addresses and messages are removed. Laundries keep an anonymous record of past sales (“Deleted customer”).

7. Your rights

Under the NDPA you can:

  • see the personal data we hold about you and get a copy (My account → Download my data);
  • have inaccurate data corrected (My account → Your details, or ask the laundry);
  • have your data deleted (My account → Delete my account), subject to the records we must keep by law;
  • object to or restrict some uses, and withdraw consent for offers at any time;
  • receive your data in a portable format (the download is a JSON file);
  • complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).

To use a right we can't handle in the app, contact us through privacy@techytal.com or our contact form. We reply within 30 days.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Laundries can only see their own data, enforced in our code and tested. Delivery-company keys are stored encrypted, staff accounts use passwords and roles, and access to the database is restricted. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will tell you and the Commission as the NDPA requires.

9. Children

The service is for adults. You must be at least 18 to open an account or a wallet.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by message if a change is significant.

11. Contact

Privacy questions or requests: privacy@techytal.com or our contact form.
